Message of Marvin Geller to the SPARC community

I have had the very great pleasure of serving as the co-chair of the SPARC SSG since SPARC's inception in 1992. It was truly a great pleasure to partner with my founding SPARC SSG co-chair, Marie-Lise Chanin for whom I have the greatest respect as both a scientist and a marvelous human being.

It was also a great pleasure to interact with the remarkably talented group of scientists who were responsible for SPARC's great success during its first decade. I want to thank you all for making SPARC, Marie-Lise, and me look so good. I've greatly enjoyed my interactions with the WCRP during this time. Here, I must particularly mention Roger Newson , to whom SPARC owes so much. I want to wish the best of luck to Alan O'Neill and his co-chair, who has yet to be named by the WCRP in their activities. I'm sure they will enjoy the experience just as much as I have. I will no longer be SPARC co-chair, but I still plan to be active in supporting SPARC through its Data Centre and hopefully through my scientififc contributions.

I have great confidence that SPARC will be at least as successful in its second decade as it was in its first.

Marvin Geller
