TITLE:

Nonlinear saturation of centrifugal instability in inviscid Taylor-Couette flow

ABSTRACT:

The nonlinear saturation of centrifugal instability in Taylor-Couette flow is a classic problem, which is normally approached through weakly-nonlinear perturbation methods. Under the assumption that the flow occurs at high Re, and that the disturbance is axisymmetric (Taylor vortices), one may apply the energy-Casimir method to derive rigorous upper bounds on the kinetic energy of the Taylor-vortex flow, without any assumption of weak supercriticality.
