Visa = done.

Check it out:

After one belated train, one delayed subway, and a race through the rain, I finally got my India visa. I got my ass up really early today to catch a train from Bonn to Frankfurt, and made it to the Indian consulate 10 minutes before it closed for lunch - but I got it!

Afterwards, I hopped a train to Dillenburg (the city where I was born) and hurrah, my aunt and my grandmother met me at the train station, and now I'm back in Frohnhausen, the little village that's not on most maps and where I spent the first 8 years of my life. I grew up in two houses: the one where my family lived, and the one where I am now, that of my crazy lovably-right-wing Onkel Heinz and my wonderful second-mom, Tante Marlies. I love this house...it's crazy and huge and has seen more family gatherings than any place else. I have dreams about this place...I have a recurring dream where I'm in this house and find a secret passage that connects the rooms. I'm not convinced that it's just a dream.

I had big time qualms about coming back to this place because I haven't been here in a few years, and also because my family is strange and crazy, but so far, it's been great. It's wonderful to see my grandma again, and I can't believe how thrilled she was to see me. I still feel weird hitting the fam up for India money. They all seem rather confused about the whole thing, like, wondering why on earth I would possibly want to go to Calcutta. Yeah.... oh, where to start...
