Strickstuendchen
hmm, yarn and
cookies...
This has been a
hard
week. I spent most of it teaching, or preparing for teaching, or worrying about
teaching, and consequently worrying about the thesis that will apparently never
be completed. Sigh. Happily, all my tutorials went really well, and by the
time I went out lunch on Friday, after finishing everything, all I could do was
stare at my coffee with this feeling euphoria, not unlike the feeling I get
after a really long run. My perseverance this week was 100% the result of
praying, and 0% that of my own talents. It's hard to explain.
So today was the mighty rejuvenation
day, and rejuvenate, I did. First I got up and drank a pot of coffee. Then I
did a bigass mountain of laundry, cleaned my entire apartment from top to
bottom, and got groceries, all of which made me feel like a champ. I can't
explain how happy a squeaky clean apartment and wardrobe make me. Enough to
dance around like an idiot chanting "clean clean
clean!" In the afternoon I had some
friends from my church over. I'd told them beforehand to bring yarn and needles
so that I could teach them knitting, and I was amazed at how many people brought
craft projects already on the go. My friend Sue, who sews fabulously, brought a
fabulous purse that she's making for her grandma. Rebecca brought a
knitted-purse kit. Jen whipped out a
huge-ass
rectangle of crochet and was like, "Um, I started crocheting this last night,"
like it weren't no thang, while my jaw dropped (I'm not so handy with the hook
anymore). So I only had to teach two people, who are now happily well on their
way to making garter stitch scarves. I've never taught anyone to knit before,
so I can't believe it actually worked.
So I learned that sitting around all
afternoon drinking coffee, eating 2-bite-brownies and Nutella (you know, you can
put the Nutella on the 2BB! My friend Jen taught me this... we were all about
sharing knowledge today), and chatting with a group of friends, is totally the
way to spend a Saturday in the dead of winter. And all this time, like a
sucker, I've been going to work on Saturdays and running my ass around in the
cold for "errands." Pwah!I also got a
lot of knitting done, and now that I've finished the Dad Socks, I feel less
pressure to finish other stuff, and instead started something
new.
This will be a hat from the Viking
Knits book by Elsebeth Lavold. Check out that infinity symbol! It's a hat for
mathletes.I really need a warm wooly hat, so
I'm going to finish this as soon as possible, before the weather gets any more
frigid. The yarn is this lovely wool/mohair blend that I picked up in Boston
over the summer. It's from Steadfast Fibers and the color (a blend of tans,
rose, and cream) is called "Carrot Cake", and a certain yarn-store-enabler out
there knows what a sucker I am for yarn colors named after foods, hehe.
Note also from the photo that my
bananas have been booted out of the fruit bowl. This is to make room for more
yarn. I think my coffee addiction
might be out of control (note time of blog post).
