new music

lisa gets new mellow songs for knitting and sighing over lost loves and stalled Ph.D. theses. Many projects cast on, zero finished.

I loves me these two new CDs that I got at HMV in a sweet 2-for-$25 deal (really, you never get discounts on good music like this in the U.S.):
1. the Garden State soundtrack
2. the Triplets of Bellevile sountrack

I loved the trailers for both of these movies, and I've seen neither. That's mostly because I'm too poor, cheap, and busy to see a lot of movies, and because I'm kind of fascinated by movie trailers. Anyways, I was pleased that the songs that I iTunes-ed after I saw the GS trailer ("Love Will Come Through" by Travis and "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service) weren't on the actual soundtrack, so that I got more music for my buck. It's a mix of chillin' music (Zero 7, Thievery Corporation -- okay, I already own these songs but they fit nicely into this mix) and introspective I'm-in-my-20s-and-searching-for-meaning-and-love songs, which are pretty hard to resist, and pretty good for listening to while knitting.

The Triplets of Bellevile soundtrack just makes me want to charleston all day long.

And here's what's currently in production:

I started sewing up the Viking Sweater, which was actually kind of fun. Though right now it looks like one of those rags that they wear in the Matrix movies.

Skinny red scarf:

I'm making this one to commemorate my failed but fun summer romance. The Yarn is luuuuurvely red manos del uruguay, which is too expensive for anything but a scarf. The scarf is only about 3'' wide, so it's going to be hella long, and perfect for wrapping many times around my neck. I look forward to pairing this with bright red lipstick.
I could knit this puppy up in an hour if I took the time, but those big needles are such a pain in my ass, I'm never motivated to work on it, even though the yarn is so luscious and beautiful. It's all kind of a weird metaphor for my unsuccessful love life and contains everything I feel about the crazy summer of 2004. Oh yeah, and the pattern is more or less from Hollywood Knits by Suss Cousins.

And, after I saw Rebex looking all cute in hers, I finally jumped on the poncho bandwagon. I'm making this cowl neck version, except mine's going to be a lot shorter. I love cowls. All I have right now are about 5 inches of garter stitch cowl, but this is perfect idiot knitting - I can do it without even looking, so it's no problem to work on it while reading papers on Floquet theory, or Christianity Today, or while watching Angel, or whatever.

The yarn is one of my personal favorites, Lambs Pride bulky. The color is charcoal, but in some lights it almost looks espresso brown, which is even better. The bottom of the poncho is going to be magenta.
