Silent Night... Not so Much

What I got for Christmas: a new coat and the stomach flu

Well, chalk that one up as a wild and crazy Christmas. We didn't open presents on Christmas Eve like we usually do, because my nephew and I were busy puking, later to be joined by my brother. Luckily, the little guy got past it in about 2 hours, whereas Toby and I were violently ill (wow, how dramatic is that! but it's totally true - that shit was violent) for much longer than that.

It wasn't till about 6pm on Christmas Day that we were able to rouse ourselves long enough to open the prezzies, and boy oh boy, did I get waaay to much. The jewel in the crown was this totally cool coat, picked out by my mom, who still spoils me, and also takes good care of me when I'm sick (it's good to have a nurse for a mom, I tellya). I also got some sock yarn, although it's acrylic, although I'm amazed that mom could even get any sock yarn at the only yarn store we have here, which is the Hobby Lobby. My brother and sister in law got me this megafreaky "yarn organizer", which is basically a plastic cylinder with holes in the lid, to keep your acrylic yarn from tangling up, you know, when you work with 3 strands tog, and a gigantor-size crochet hook (seriously, that's what the lady on the package is doing, and she's wearing this scary joker-face while constructing the fugliest afghan I've ever seen). So I think I will return that puppy to Michaels in exchange for some needles and other crafty stuff. I got other good stuff, like this book and my favorite fancy shampoo,

Today I was made Godmother at my nephew Owen's baptism. Wow, I still can't really believe his parents have confidence in me, considering how often I get into fights with the kid's father. But I'm honored to have the job, and I love that little guy to pieces.
So, with that, I post my last advent Bible verse:

A voice of one calling:
"In the desert prepare the way of the LORD;
make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low;
the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.
And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it,
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."
Isaiah 40:1-5.
