Viking Hat

Constructive things you can do while watching Star Wars.

This morning when I got out of bed, I declared today "Summer travel planning day" -- the idea was to go to school, and spend the afternoon hooking up hotels and flights and cash advances, and everything else I'll need this summer to go to the various conferences that the bossman is giving me permission to go to (I work for a generous and well-funded dude, and this summer is going to kick all kinds of ass, but more about that later....) Well, it was snowing hard when I got up, and it never let up, so during breakfast I changed it to "sitting on my ass and knitting day." And while I didn't really knit that long, I did finish my Elsebeth Lavold hat:

Cute, eh? I love that color, and it goes with my red Christmas coat. I didn't quite consider all the factors when I converted the pattern to suit my worsted weight yarn, so now the folded-over part is a little too big compared to the rest of the hat, which is a little too small. I could just not fold the cabled part up as high, but then the infinity symbols would get cut off, and you'd be able to see where I reversed the 2x2 rib. Oh well...does anyone care? I don't think so.

I guess that figure-8 isn't really an infinity symbol when it's oriented that way, so either it's just the number 8, or it's an ananema. I'll go with the ananema, I think, as a little shout out to the astronomers of the world. Also, my dad is really into ananemas...he's bizzare-ly fascinated by them. I guess that's up there with his other strange interests, which include cult research, the Israeli military, and cutlery.

But back to the knitting: I have lots of projects that I could resume now, but I think I will just cast on a new pair of socks tomorrow.

When I finally went outside at about 5pm today (it was still snowing, but I was out of food), it was really fun to trudge through the snow. It was really beautiful in the dusk light, with flurries everywhere, and the unplowed street sparkling. I pretty much tumbled and slid to the Loblaws, but it reminded me of being 8 years old and playing in the snow. I wish I could go sledding.

Today while doing my Bible reading I had a strange premonition about something, but I wont write it out unless it comes true. I want to be really careful about not mixing the wandering of my own imagination, especially when big pots of coffee are involved, with the still small voice of God. Hm!
