February is for socks
Will winter ever end? Will I
ever finish a project?
So, last night a bunch of us took Rebekah out for
her birthday (yes, it was 3 weeks ago), and it was a really good time, and I got
to see a lot of people I haven't talked to much in a while. Shootin the shit,
laughing our butts off...yeah. It had been a long time since I had really been
out "drinkin", but last night, I daresay I got really shitfaced. Ah, it brings
back memories. (By the way, Rebex is not as depressed as her blog would have
you believe. She's just been playing a computer game...but you didn't hear that
from me.)Gosh, it's been a long time
since I've finished a project, and yet I keep starting new ones. Terrible. But
look, I finally finished one of my green church
socks:
Yeah, that picture took a bit of
stretching to take. I am quite proud of this sock. It's retro and green and
fabulous, and there are no holes at the heel-turn. I'm going to be totally
irresponsible now, and cast on a completely different sock. Excuse me for a hot
minute...*scuttling away from
computer*...*scuttling
back*Here we
are:
You know, it's hard to do a dpn
cast-on with a hangover.That's the
Bernat "Sox" yarn that my mom got me for Christmas. Props to my mom for finding
me sock yarn in suburban chicago retail country. Yeah, it's acrylic, but, for a
garment that will spend its life sandwiched between my sweaty feet and my boots,
who cares? The colors of this yarn are excitingly
candylike, but I'm disappointed that they wont
stripe. I'm hoping that the mish mash of colors will come out looking maybe a
bit Missoni-like. No, seriously.I
need to name these socks, and I think I will go with "SoX Nouveau!", like it
says on the french side of the label. You know... like art nouveau, but more
hip and exciting....ehm, yeah. I usually get annoyed at use of letters as
abbreviations (like "sox" or "thanx" or "c u l8r"), and even more so at
excessive use of exclamation marks, but, kind of like tacky clothes, stupid
stuff like that can come back into style just because it's amusing. soX
nouveau!!I have a lot to do today, and
it involves writing solutions for and marking a midterm. Sigh... I feel like
the executioner's apprentice.
