Difference in sea ice concentration between
mid and early June 1999

This figure shows the difference in ice
concentration between mid June (June 15-19) and early June (June
5-9). Positive values (reds) represent an increase in sea ice
concentration. Negative values (blues) represent a reduction in
sea ice concentration. Near 0E, one can see the increase in sea
ice concentration associated with the expansion of the ice pack
in that region. The negative values surrounding the cosmonaut
embayment are remarkable and are associated with the expansion
in the embayment that took place in mud June.
