The Radiometers Celebrate

It is a joyous day in the Physics department, as the Radiometers celebrated their Yahoo NBA Fantasy League Championship victory over the heavily favoured Go Habs Go?.

"This one's for my Mom", said Canadian PG Steve Nash, "and the entire province of British Columbia".

After losing twice to Go Habs Go? during the regular season, the Rads turned it up in the finals, with stellar backcourt production leading to wins in points, 3 pointers, steals and A/T ratio, and a gutsy performance on the boards from C Samuel Dalembert and C-F Carlos Boozer securing that category.

"Coach Toohey had a game plan" explained leading scorer G Mike Bibby, "and I think the key was that everyone, even the ball boys, bought into his system."

"You've got to hand it to these player," responded coach and GM Matt Toohey, "when we needed 19 assists in one game, Steve was willing to listen. When we needed 38 points, James (Posey, G-F) was willing to push a game into double overtime in order to get 38 points. When you have character guys on a team, you can't help but be successfull."

"We've faced adversity all year," added firey G-F Latrell Sprewell, "and nobody believed in us, but we showed those [people]".

The Radiometers, who were dealt the fourth-to-last pick in the preseason draft, started the season with their second round pick, G Ray Allen, on the bench after having ankle surgery. The team started slowly with their experienced captain on the bench, and didn't win a matchup until week five against the P-Dubbies. While other teams responded to poor starts by trading their best players in highly suspicious circumstances, veteran leadership on the Radiometers motivated a steady improvement. The team acquired Boozer in a deft trade giving up the highly prized PF Vladimir Radamanovic, which along with Allen's return to the lineup, seemed to turn the tides in the right direction.

"I really liked Radmanovic, especially his name," explained Toohey, "but I really like Boozer's name too, and we needed more rebounds, and someone to fill the center position, so I think it was a great trade for this franchise."

Toohey has been praised for a number of moves, including signing Zach Randolph (later traded for Kenyon Martin), James Posey, and Samuel Dalembert as free agents.

"It just goes to show this is a team game," said reserve F Rodney Rogers, who filled in for Kenyon Martin who suffered from knee tendinitis late in the playoffs, "and you don't necessary need a player in the top 18 of the O-rankings in order to win it all. You just have to be willing to give 110% and leave it all on the floor."

In accepting the Championship trophy, surrounded by spraying champagne, Coach Toohey commented on the quality of the league.

"I think Commissioner Castel has done a great job here, and I think we were all motivated to take our games to a higher level because of the competition out there. I mean, you look at the league and you see that anyone could have won this; the Blue Heads, NBA Baltimore, The Big Turks, Rectal Salami, these are great teams with great players and great front offices. Classy organizations all. And we all know, that come next year, this championship will mean nothing. Next year we should really put money on it."
