Research Interests

The focus of my research involves the analysis of data collected through MANTRA stratospheric balloon campaigns by emission radiometer instruments, and the retrieval of stratospheric nitric acid profiles. The retrieval procedure involves the construction of a forward model of both the instrument and the atmosphere, and implements a non-linear least-squares optimization algorithm. Measurement of nitric acid is an important and challenging venture for those interested in the chemical state of the atmosphere, as it plays an important role in stratospheric ozone depletion mechanisms, polar stratospheric cloud formation, and is highly sensitive to atmospheric aerosol levels.

I have also been investigating the variability of stratospheric trace gas species through analysis of satellite data from instruments such as the ACE-FTS, MLS/AURA and OSIRIS.

My research is made possible by the supervision and guidance of Professor Kim Strong, within the Atmospheric Physics Group at the University of Toronto's Department of Physics.
