MOPITT WORKSHOP

(A Celebration of 7 Years of Global CO Measurements from Space)

University of Toronto, September 1 and 2, 2007

Toronto, Canada

General Information:

The Measurements of Pollution in the Troposphere (MOPITT) is Canada’s contribution to the Earth Observing System program of NASA. Built by the COMDEV corporation of Ontario, Canada and is jointly managed by the University of Toronto and NCAR, USA. It was launched in December 1999 aboard Terra spacecraft. MOPITT has been producing high quality global CO data for the last 7 years and has exceeded its nominal lifetime. These data are being very effectively used to study biomass burning effects and the transcontinental transport of this pollutant, chemical assimilation studies, inversion studies to constrain the source emissions, air quality studies and for validating measurements during various campaigns. Although there are currently other space borne instruments giving global CO data, MOPITT remains unmatched in terms of the density of the data as well as the temporal coverage. This valuable data has led to a sharp increase of publications dealing with CO data from MOPITT. In order to celebrate this unqualified success of MOPITT and to get a current overview of its impact on the aforementioned areas, a workshop is being organized at the University of Toronto on September 1 and 2, 2007. It is aimed researchers currently using or planning to use MOPITT data for air quality issues, assimilation and inversion studies etc.

This workshop is being supported by the Canadian Space Agency.

Location:

The meeting will be held in the St. George campus of the University of Toronto. The campus is located within the core area of downtown Toronto and is easily accessible by subway. The closest subway stations are St. George (both on University and Bloor lines) and Queen’s park (on University line).  Taxis and limos from the Pearson International Airport to the campus charge about $40 CAD.

Structure of the workshop:

There will be several invited talks on the MOPITT mission, retrieval issues, scientific results and future outlook. In addition there will be contributed papers dealing with the latest results and possible new directions for applications for MOPITT data. Short abstracts are invited for presentation at the workshop on any topic of relevance to MOPITT related studies.

Abstract submission and Registration:

Abstracts should be submitted using the web-based abstract submission form by July 15, 2007. The form can be found at http://www.atmosp.physics.utoronto.ca/~MOPworkshop/Registration_abstract_submission.php.  (<-This is original from KIM)

                                               (and this will be our->       Registration_abstract_submission.php  )

This form also contains information to be submitted for registration. Please fill out the registration form even if you do not plan to submit a paper for presentation.
