2011

  • AGU Chapman Conference on "Atmospheric Gravity Waves and their Effects on General Circulation and Climate"
    February 28 - March 4, 2011; Honolulu, Hawaii; http://www.agu.org/meetings/chapman/2011/ccall/

  • WCRP Joint Scientific Committee ; Exter, UK ; by invitation ; April 4-8
  • Michael McIntyre -- A 70th Birthday Celebration

A 2-day meeting to celebrate Michael McIntyre's scientific career will be held in Cambridge on Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th April 2011. The meeting will include scientific talks on the many topics that have interested Michael with, we hope, much discussion and many searching questions from the audience. A dinner will be held on the evening of Monday 11th April. Note that a meeting of the EPSRC-sponsored network on 'wave-flow interactions' will follow in Cambridge 13th to 15th April and the EGU General Assembly 2011 in Vienna is the preceding week (3rd to 8th April). April 11-12

The SPARC Session featured 5 renowned invited speakers: A5 - Stratospheric Processes and their Role in Climate
    Convenor:
Norman McFarlane, SPARC IPO, University of Toronto, (Norm.McFarlane@ec.gc.ca)
    Invited Speakers:
Peter Haynes, Bill Randel, Ian Folkins, Saroja Polavarapu, Ted Shepherd
    Description:
This session will focus on topics falling within the scope of the WCRP SPARC (Stratospheric Processes and their Role in Climate) program. Accordingly, it will encompass the chemistry and dynamics of the atmosphere from the upper troposphere to the mesosphere, with an emphasis on integrative or coupled aspects. The over-arching themes of SPARC are chemistry-climate coupling; stratosphere-troposphere dynamical coupling; and the detection, attribution and prediction of stratospheric change. Core elements of the SPARC program include stratospheric data assimilation; process-oriented validation of chemistry-climate models (CCMVal); gravity waves; and laboratory studies.
