SPARC INITIATIVES : GCM-Reality Intercomparison Project for SPARC: GRIPS
Intercomparison of Troposphere-Stratosphere General Circulation Models

Co-chairs: S. Pawson (USA), e-mail: pawson@polska.gsfc.nasa.gov and K. Kodera (Japan), e-mail: kodera@mri-jma.go.jp

Troposphere-stratosphere chemical-climate models are needed for climate assessment purposes. The goal of this initiative is to assess the present state of troposphere-stratosphere general circulation modelling, develop and implement strategies for model intercomparisons, and improve their capabilities for studying problems related to SPARC.

The activities and action plan of this initiative are described in the SPARC Implementation Plan.

Latitudinal structure of the 100 hPa zonal-mean temperature (K) in January from observations and 10 atmospheric models.
