7.6 Commands
7.6.1 Packetised Commands
For science objectives, the instrument command capabilities must support the following
categories:
7.6.1.1 Memory loads
These commands are required to load special operating modes or patches to existing software
to overcome problems with the instrument operation
7.6.1.2 Parameter loads
These commands are required to load values of operational parameters into the instrument
control tables to varying operational parameters. Examples of such parameters are:
thermostat temperatures, mechanism rates and limiting values.
7.6.1.3 Operational Commands
These commands are required to command the instrument to perform specific tasks: eg open
covers, go into special calibration mode.
All commands must comply with the GIIS operational constraints.
It must be possible to send commands with a "delay parameter" which would delay execution
until a particular instrument event has occurred or for execution at a particular time of day
or orbit.
7.6.2 Discrete Commands and Telemetry
A number of discrete (relay) commands and discrete (active and passive) telemetry points
are available (see GIIS). These are not required for science usage and are available to meet
engineering requirements.
